Beach korfball FAQs
Is beach korfball different to regular korfball?
It’s mostly the same but there are a few differences – e.g. it’s played in teams of 4, there are no separate attacking and defending divisions, and there are rolling subs. If you’re not sure, there will be people around who are familiar and will be able to guide you during the session.
What gear do I need?
Beach korfball is played on sand so shoes are not allowed, but some people prefer playing in socks to avoid going bare feet (we’d recommend old socks that you don’t mind getting ruined if this is the case). Sunglasses and hats are also allowed, and don’t forget to bring water because beach korfball can be tiring even when it isn’t warm.
What happens if it rains?
Beach korfball sessions are generally not cancelled when it rains, and will usually go ahead as normal. There are sheltered areas available at the venue should you wish to take a break from the rain during the session. In the event the weather is expected to be especially bad and it is unsafe to go ahead with the session, we will make every effort to notify people ahead of time whenever possible. If there are thunderstorms in the area, sessions are likely to be cancelled at short notice or abandoned.
How do I get to the venue?
There are a number of bus routes from the city centre that run past Victoria Park (Cardiff Bus routes 13, 17,18 and Adventure Travel route C1), and Waun-gron Park train station is a short walk away. For those driving, there are usually plenty of parking spaces on the nearby streets. The venue can be found on Google Maps.
