Attendees

  • Chris Roberts (Chair)
  • Chris Woodhead (Treasurer)
  • Maria Pollard (Social Secretary)
  • Lorna Robb (Fixtures Secretary)
  • Aman Mohammad (Recruitment Secretary)

1. Christmas Dinner

  • Proposal: Maria suggested running a poll with two options — a traditional Christmas dinner at Pen&Wig or Brewhouse, or an evening at Chance & Counters.
  • Discussion: The group agreed that Chance & Counters would be a good choice for the club social.
  • Decision: Maria will look for suitable dates around early December, aiming for a day without training or a match the next day. Estimated attendance: ~20 people.

2. Upcoming Socials

  • Ideas discussed: Laserquest, bowling, a watch party, and a pub trip after the Freshers’ Tournament.
  • Decision: Laserquest will be the next social.
  • Next steps: A watch party is tentatively planned for November.

3. Recruitment Report (Aman)

  • Aman has focused advertising on sporty individuals but noted diminishing returns from using the same ad content.
  • Ad spend so far: £113.
  • Plan:
    • Capture more content for future promotion.
    • Build a reserve of content over the Christmas period.
  • Website update:
    • Chris W noted that pages for Basketball and Netball are now set up and awaiting content.
    • A potential “give-it-a-go” session was suggested for basketballers/netballers.

4. Referee Proposals for Regional

  • Proposal: Move to dual refereeing and add a mentor at each match, increasing costs to £60 per match (£25 per referee, £10 per mentor).
  • Discussion:
    • SW regional referee standards are reportedly lower than those in Wales; the proposal may not directly address this issue.
    • The club supports funding mentoring but not combined with dual refereeing due to cost concerns.
  • Counter proposal: Pay £35 per match, split equally between the referee and mentor. The mentor may also dual-referee if appropriate.
  • Decision: Club agreed the £60 per match proposal is unaffordable; will proceed with the £35 split arrangement as a reasonable compromise.

5. Archers Shirts

  • Aman requested spare shirts for the upcoming Archers match.
  • Action: Chris W to provide the shirts at the next club session this week.

6. Kit Orders

  • The next kit order will be placed by the end of this week.
  • Note: No hoodies will be included in this order.
  • A new hoodie design will be created and ordered in October.

7. Match Bookings (Report from Lorna)

  • Welsh League: All matches finalised and confirmed.
  • Regional: Most matches booked; one away fixture still to be confirmed.
  • Newport match (November): Considering moving to mid-week due to busy weekend schedules.

Meeting adjourned.

Next meeting: 13th October
