Taking advantage of a league rule that meant anyone could play in the Taunton second team, our opposition featured one J. Cockburn, as well as a handful of Taunton's first teamers. Taking to the pitch after a competetive first team match-up, the team took a few minutes to gel, but after Kenny's long bomb opened the scoring City were into their stride. Harry rounded his familiar looking marker for his first goal of the day and we had our first lead. Josh immediately pegged us back to 2-1, only for Aidan to win a penalty after being fouled on his way to a certain goal (!). Midge threw the penalty miles over but Aidan's rebound set up another chance - again 3-1 was not to be, and we had to wait until near the end of the first half when Matt deservedly restored the two goal cushion with another long shot. Within 10 seconds of the restart Kenny's runner had made it 4-1, and even when Taunton landed another fine long range effort, Matt responded in kind to keep the lead at 3. A long-ish period followed with Holly and Gwen both going close, but nothing would quite drop, until Matt intercepted a pass out of defence and found Rachel open under the post. This time she made no mistake, and despite a late pair of consolation goals, City held on to record a 6-4 victory. Overall there were many positives to take from the game, and
with a little more organisation and some better luck with shooting, some good
results will come the way of this team.
