Cardiff City's first tournament also saw their first victories on the way to an impressive, if somewhat fortuitous, third place.

It began with two narrow defeats in tough games against Oxford City and Abingdon. The windy conditions kept the scoring low, but Cardiff were unable to match their more experienced opponents who went on to finish in the top two places.

The third game saw the first ever victory for Cardiff, a good 4-2 victory of Bristol 2, in which the newer players showed they were getting to grips with the game.

The next game against Exeter saw another impressive performance, marred only by some terrible shooting. Chance after chance was created and missed, including three penalties. By contrast, Exeter took their chances to run out winners.

Going into their last game in last place, Cardiff produced their best performance of the day, well-organised in defence and incisive in attack, they overwhelmed Bristol 1 by four goals, a margin that saw us grab third place on goal difference.
