Cardiff's final game of the season saw the return home match against Exeter. Despite the handicap of having Josh (the erstwhile seconds captain) refereeing their match and Midge and James playing for the oppo, the seconds showed their true flair and ability in a stylish win over the Devonians. The first half saw relatively few shooting opportunities for the boys, but a textbook display of skills Terry would have been proud of from the girls. As the half time whistle blew we were 4-0 up thanks to a goal each from the girls, including a superbly dispatched penalty from Gwen that made the first team weep! The second half was a different story, with Exeter awakening from their hangovers, largely thanks to a hat-trick from Midge (yes, thanks a lot Midge!) and an energetic performance from captain Tony. Not to be outdone, our boys rose impressively to the challenge. A stunning long-shot from Lee appeared to defy the laws of physics, but was upstaged by a cheeky backwards-over-the-head opportunist steal from the more experienced O'Sullivan brother, Ian. Lee continued to show off by putting away a great running-in shot as he skinned his defender for the umpteenth time, and to cap it off the plucky Aidan netted a great goal, to deafening applause. The comedy highlight of the game for the spectators, (apart from Aidan crashing into a wall, again!) was to hear Jack's excuse for his failure to make any defence at all of two of Tony's shots ... "Sorry, I was busy!" Hmm, Jack needs to work on his korfball excuses, but luckily Tony needs to work on his shooting more! The final score was a healthy 8-5, but was tinged with sadness as Cally was forced to retire to the sidelines with a twisted ankle having shown a sterling performance all afternoon. Get well soon!
