On Wednesday, it was the first ever match played by Dragons 2. That still made them much more experienced than their opponents, most of whom were playing their first ever game of korfball. And this difference in experience showed as the Dragons consistently found gaping holes in the Uni defence. At one end, with James cleverly dragging his athletic marker out of the way, Josh was able to repeatedly feed Amy and Angharad who were far too elusive for their markers and finished superbly. Amy netted a first-half hat-trick, and Angharad would have scored 6 had she waited for the ref to blow his whistle before she nonchalantly scored a penalty. Jude replaced Amy and was unlucky not to win several penalties as the Uni girls continued to struggle. At the other end, they got less opportunities to attack, but were superb in defence, never looking like conceeding a goal and producing countless interceptions. When they did get into attack, Max proved the main threat, grabbing 4 goals on his debut. An ever-changing Uni side tried hard and deserve considerable credit for their attitude and sportsmanship despite an adverse scoreline.
Thanks also to the officiating duo of Dave and Lee.
