Brief summary by Cecil B De Mille
|
Records tumbled as Cardiff City took on local rivals Cardiff Uni in a league
warm-up friendly. With both sides having plenty of new recruits to try the
game, an early understanding to play rolling subs was reached. This meant the
first record to go was 'most girls making their debut' - with 8, three of whom
had never even seen a korf before. Along with the first teamers this made a
total of 12 girlies - probably just as well regulars Cally, Holly and Midge
couldn't play.

|
The lads were slightly more normal in number, a mere 7 taking to the court
meant there was a grand total of 19 players for a slightly panicking Elaine to
sort out. She may well be in line for a call up as Sven Goran Erikkson's
assistant after ensuring a reasonable amount of court time for pretty much
everyone, although at 1 hour 20 minutes, the game was something of an epic.
The total of three refs is probably a record too round these parts.
With a never-ending merry go round of players, it was no surprise Cardiff City
struggled for continuity, and soon found themselves 5 - 0 down. The Uni first
team have gelled nicely and put together some good moves to thoroughly deserve
their lead. However, City were holding back at this stage, and as Elaine
'wheeled out the big cannons'
near half time City fought back with a flurry of well taken goals to finish 5 -
4.
Unfortunately that purple patch couldn't last, as Cardiff Uni continued to edge
away throughout the second half, and despite a great long shot from Terry
finally dropping, we finished up on the wrong end of an 8-6 scoreline.

Excellent technique again from Elaine. Didn't go in though ;-(
|
| So despite still not breaking our duck against our nearest rivals
Cardiff Uni can claim a useful exercise in giving the newcomers their first
taste of action, and trying out different combinations of regulars. Of the
'slightly less new' newbies on show, Becky is starting to show some good
skills, and Aidan was unlucky not to get his first goal for the club. |
| Lastly, it's probably worth pointing out that the club's utter
goalhanging git Taff didn't take a single shot. That's gotta be a
record! |
