Cardiff City are wondering what they'll have to do to defeat their University rivals. A year of extra training, improved tactics and even recruiting their girls still doesn't seem to be enough as the Uni side kept up their impressive run of victories against City.

The game started badly with the uni getting on the board first, and after they successfully booted the ball up to the attack a second goal went in and City were in an unfamiliar situation for this season. Two missed penalties in the next phase meant the Uni had time to pull further away. Both ends were guilty of missing easy chances for City, while Uni made space and sank their shots. A nicely taken running-in shot by James was all City had to show for a first half effort of largely directionless bustle, and a 7-1 deficit

The second half didn't start any better as two quick goals put City's best attackers back defence and the game ground down quickly. The pattern had largely been that the ball spent most of it's time at one end, and players from both teams there began to tire. Even the introduction of Josh and Rob couldn't provide enough spark to launch a fightback, and despite plenty of mean defending, the attacking was static and two longshots was all we could muster.

A final score of 12-3 was something of a disappointment, but Cardiff Uni will be pleased with an excellent defensive display, and some shooting which had the game sewn up by half time.

Cardiff City seconds fell to their first ever defeat on Tuesday, but nevertheless emerged with great credit after competing well with a Cardiff University side that included several players from the side that had just outclassed the first team.

Although City fell behind early, they didn't panic and moved the ball around smoothly. Rob's experience showed as he was always an option, even if he was "nursing" his injured shoulder in a relaxed duel with Ramzi from the Uni side. City's best goal of the first half came from Aidan though, with a nice finish from the back of the court. The Uni team kept ahead, but Abi's coolly taken penalty in the last action of the half meant that the deficit was only 2 goals.

The second half followed a very similar pattern to the first, with the students regularly extending their lead through some ruthless finishing from their girls, only for the City team to claw it back. Ultimately City couldn't quite catch up, with Gareth particularly unlucky not to score (one running-in shot was disallowed by the ref, a certain Mr Matthews, clearly biased as a former Uni player ;-). Everyone came out of the game with some positives, with the exception of Josh who was marked out of the game by Grace and Donna.
