With the League won Cardiff City were playing for pride as they faced their Welsh rivals in the match on Wednesday. This was espcially so considering they had just watched the 2nds win their league to bring an excellent and well deserved double. Cardiff Uni are growing stronger each week as the nationals grow closer and were looking forward to some competition for a nationals warm up.

The game started nervously with Midge nicely breaking the deadlock with well deserved running in shot. However, the University team were strong in attack with good possession and a much more exciting attack than had occured when the two teams met previously. Joey showed his speed with a smart running in shot to level the score. Cardiff Uni were spurred on and carrying on with excellent attacks, took the lead moments later. Cardiff City with a new look section due to injures within the team, look unsettled and were finding it difficult to keep possession and turn possession in goals.

From the outset it became clear that Cardiff University favoured a more physical game which was to the detrement of the City's attacking plans. In defence City were strong with Ceri keeping ex-City player Jack at bay. City proved determined with some excellent attacking from all four players. Chances were made - Rachel had her player literally stumbling backwards, and Harry drew many switches but the breakthrough came when Kristina scored a short shot to bring the scores level.

With captain Craig in attack he showed that all the training, matches and tournaments have paid off when he scored a beautiful long shot to leave the defence stunned. Joey seemed determined for the lime light to not be taken from him by scoring a long shot for himself. With Jack scoring the score went up to 2-5 by half time. With some constructive words from Harry and Taff, some not so constructive words from Susan (sorry about that!!) and a couple of changes, the team started again determined to change the result and show why they have won the league so convincingly this season.

Well, a game has two halves and this one certainly did. With Harry's section in attack and now sporting Sian they quickly settled down with Lee scoring from a great opening created by Harry. In the first half Susan's section had seen little of attack and were determined to show what they could do with it. Susan scored a penalty which turned out to be the second of 11 unanswered goals for the city team. The team soon levelled the score with Susan bouncing in a fluky long shot after some excellent attacking play from the whole section.

The team was inspired and started to play the type of korfball you'd expect from the winners of the league. Sian scored a lovely running in shot to take City into the lead for the first time since the very beginning of the match. In defence Rob and Ceri worked hard to cut the feed and dominated under the post which caused the Uni attack problems.

Zoe came on to make her debut for the first team only to find herself straight into attack after Harry converted a penalty. Rob also saw himself join the scorers' sheet after an excellent block from Ceri saw the ball land perfectly for him to sink a running in shot. Minutes later Ceri scored two after a 'beautiful one two' (Ian's words!) with Susan saw him run past Jack for a yet another running in shot. City were in a commanding position and played in a much more relaxed way which allowed Lee and Sian to claim their second goals and bring the score to 11-5. With Susan bringing the final score to 13-5 the team can be proud of their excellent performance and their ability to comeback from a difficult start. All thanks to Taff for being our manager (due to his injury!!) and the whole squad for an excellent team peformance.

Finally, big thanks Ann L-B from Bristol for reffing us.
