In their otherwise all-conquering march through the season, the only stumbling block the Dragons had come up against before was their defeat earlier in the season by City, and they were clearly keen to make up for that, knowing that avoiding defeat this time would make them heavy favourites for the league. Indeed by winning by more than 3 goals they would actually clinch the title that evening - as well as pushing their goal difference into three figures. For City however a repeat victory would make them clear favourites as it would leave the destiny of the league firmly in their hands.

And City started better, with Matt's long shot giving them the lead. Ian equalised with a spin from feed, but slack passing from defence allowed Max to put City back in the lead, and they had a few chances to establish a potentially significant 2 goal gap. Instead James scored from mid-court to re-establish parity. From then on, Dragons took charge towards half-time. Rob scored with a neatly improvised underarm shot and then a looping long shot, before the girls took over with Angharad scoring a running-in shot and then setting up Helen for a goal from the back of the court.

In the second half, Dragons continued to pull away, with Ian scoring from under the basket and then feeding Gwen's runner. At 8-2 the game looked over, but City produced an instant response with Max's running-in shot. Boosted by this and showing good resilience, they added 2 more goals through Sandy's long shot and Midge from close range. Ian's hat-trick though made the game safe, and Dragons were to have the last word through one of James' trademark long shots. Final score, Cardiff City 5-10 Cardiff Dragons, and the Dragons had clinched the division two title.

Cardiff City 5 10 Cardiff Dragons
Max 2 3 Ian
Matt 1 2 Rob
