Cardiff City Squad

Pam Moffat, Kat Smith, Zoe Gabica, Kay Lewis, Terry Matthews, Lee O'Sullivan, Josh Cockburn, Aidan Dickson

A week on from a strong performance against Bristol City's second team, Cardiff City took on Bristol University's second team. Things were looking good for the City team, as even though missing their Captain Ian O'Sullivan, brother Lee returned to the team following two sterling performances for the first team. Lining up alongside Lee were Josh, Kat and Kay. Things were looking equally solid in the other section with plenty of experience provided by Terry and Aidan, with Zoe and Pam looking to top excellent performances from the week before.

Josh and Lee orchestrated the game from the beginning, setting up an early flurry of chances that saw Lee roll a running in shot around the rim of the basket before ditching his defender and landing a nice long shot. Josh then quickly gained a penalty, which he converted.

Then it was the Uni's chance to attack, and with all relatively new players on the pitch, they started off slowly keeping the ball and creating few chances. City's defence was solid, and once the ball was one back, it went up the other end where Pam was fouled taking a running in shot. Terry stepped up and confidently put the ball away.

The game had now settled into a pattern with Uni not taking many shots, and city creating a whole flurry of chances whenever they got their hands on the ball. In the space of five minutes Pam, Zoe and Terry all missed runners, but with good collecting from Aidan were able to recycle the ball well. Terry eventually gained a penalty only to see it roll out before redeeming himself with a fabulous veer off Pam's feed and landing a stonker of a long shot to make it 4-0.

City continued to dominate as the half was nearing its end with Josh mercilessly skinning his defender time and time again to score a runner and then draw a foul for a penalty. Unfortunately he made it two missed penalties in a row for city, but after regaining possession again burnt his marker to score a runner off Kay's feed and claim himself a first half hat-trick.

Seconds before the half time whistle, Aidan fed Pam for a well-deserved runner to make it 7-0 at half time.

City could be very pleased at half time with their domination of possession and how many chances they created. With more clinical finishing, the score could have been even higher. It wasn't just the attack that was doing well however, as defence looked solid with Bristol Uni only getting a couple of shots up in the whole half.

The second half was to be much more competitive though as Bristol Uni's players with some extra confidence from their half time team talk were much more willing to put their shots up.

Before they could get in the action though Pam started the half as she had finished the first by out-foxing her marker and claiming a well executed running in shot off Terry's feed.

Uni's passing in attack had stepped up a gear in the second half and saw them create some early opportunities with one of the girls putting up a lovely long shot that dropped in to get them on the score board at 8-1.

No sooner was the ball in attack and Josh had found some space under the basket and a good pass from Lee saw him put City ahead 9-1.

With Bristol Uni's confidence visibly growing, the scoring slowed in the final stages of the game as their defence became tighter and they kept the ball for longer periods, culminating in another girl landing a long shot to take it to 9-2.

Cardiff City however still managed to finish the game in style with Zoe earning a penalty for Terry to convert and Kay getting on the scoresheet before Lee made it 12-2 with a cute little shot from under the post.

The last action of the game saw the section of Terry, Aidan Pam and Zoe back in attack continuing to keep the pressure on. Consistent attacking with Aidan claiming numerous collects finally saw Terry feed Pam for a running in shot that dallied on the rim before falling in for her first hat-trick!

All in all then a fantastic performance by the whole team in defence and attack where their ability to create chance after chance took them to a 13-2 win.
