Cardiff City II v Bristol Uni II

Cardiff City Squad

Pam Moffat, Kat Smith, Kay Lewis, Holly Sisley, Terry Matthews, Lee O'Sullivan, Josh Cockburn, James Frost, Lee O'Sullivan

Already assured of the title, Cardiff City made the trip to Bristol Uni for their last game of the season. A shake up of ends saw Terry, Josh, Kay and Holly have the first attack, with James, Kat, Pam, and skipper Ian in defence. Cardiff got off to a shaky start, not finding their passes against an athletic student side and, suffering from agoraphobia in a hall where the pitch didn't come within 2 inches of the wall, often stepped out of bounds. After both sides missed chances, it was the students who took the lead, before Josh equalised with a runner from Holly's feed under the post. With Cardiff not adjusting to the size of the court, and being a little static in their movements this was a frustrating passage of play, not helped by a long shot being scored past Josh to put Bristol back ahead. After several near misses, Ian grabbed a collect and span neatly past his marker to bring it back to 2-2. Terry then took advantage of his marker standing way back to land a trademark long shot and Cardiff led for the first time. Back came Bristol with a long shot of their own from almost halfway as James watched in disbelief. He quickly made amends with a running-in shot from Pam's feed to give City a 4-3 lead at half time.

Some wise words from Susan at half-time made an instant impact in the quality of Cardiff's play as they started to pick their passes better. Although Bristol scored first, Cardiff responded with Kat's now customary goal, before she fed James for his second running in shot. Bristol were consistently finding the net themselves though, and a two goal burst saw them lead 7-6, a well-deserved lead for a side much improved from the shot-shy team who were comfortably beaten in Cardiff. But now City began to make their chances count. Josh landed a long shot, before Lee, a half-time substitute, scored from collect. Pam's goal established a two goal cushion before another long shot from Josh and Kay's runner moved City well clear. Pam got a second, before Bristol finally managed to halt Cardiff's sequence of unanswered goals with another long shot. Josh's running-in shot finished the scoring, though both Terry and Holly were unlucky not to grab late goals. City finished with a 13-8 victory, and an excellent second half performance. That 8 different players scored is testament to the strength in depth of the squad.
