City's second team restored some pride for the visitors with a well-earned 5-4 victory in the reserves clash. Thanks to National Express stranding Susan, the seconds got a bit of rejigging too. Midge filled in for the promoted Rachel to try and help steer the three new lads round the court, but it was Bristol who made the most of the opening 10 minutes, landing three long shots to their obvious delight while chaos reigned in the Cardiff defence. However, as Ian, Lee and Jack began to find their bearings Cardiff got back into the game. Cally and Ian both went close with running shots before Midge kickstarted the scoreboard for Cardiff. Her reward was to be substituted for Elaine, but it was this goal that began an excellent second half comeback. First Lee hooked in a shot over his head, then Kay beat her marker to land her first shot in the league from short range. It was all Cardiff at this point, good hustling play from Kay and Aidan, and the other lads using their height well meant Cardiff enjoyed the lion's share of possession. Holly and Jack were unlucky to see goals ruled out before the inevitable Bristol goal against the run of play. Even though time was running down, Cardiff continued to press and with Elaine feeding, Ian finally got one of his shots to drop. At 4-4 a frantic finale saw the ball flung back and forth, and it was Kay who caught the defence napping, finding Cally open under the post to sink the winner with only a few seconds left. It capped a fine second half performance with newer players improving visibly as the game went on - and with a few less nerves and some more clinical finishing this game could have finished with a much higher score. Well done guys! Finally, big thanks to Mark from Bristol for reffing us.
