What a great sporting Sunday it was. England routed the West Indies for their lowest ever total. Manchester United collapsed dismally, again. What's that? You want me to describe the korfball? Must I? Oh well..

I'll try to accentuate the positives. We arrived on time. Bristol Uni have a very nice sports hall. No-one got injured. Our defending was OK. Bristol Uni are very nice people. Unfortunately, that's as good as it got for City on a very disappointing evening for our first team. A bad start, where we somehow managed to combine being lackadaisical and hurried saw us surrender possession far too readily. Although we didn't give up too many easy chances, the sheer volume of shots that the students were able to put up led to them going 3-0 up. Sian's goal meant that it was only 4-1 at half-time though and we were still in with a chance.

However, the second half followed a similar pattern as the athleticism of the university side meant they won nearly every collect and forced countless interceptions. Given this, City needed to make the most of what possession we did have but too often chose the wrong option. Three missed penalties and several squandered free passes didn't help either. Bristol soon went 5-1 ahead, and Dave Walker's running in shot smacked of consolation. Cardiff's tiring defence faded towards the end and Bristol finished off with some easy goals for a 7-2 victory.

So Bristol University deservedly clinch the Excalibur league for the second consecutive year, and need just to beat their City rivals to finish the season unbeaten. Cardiff City meanwhile have to lick their wounds and regroup in order to ensure second place. At least the impressive performance of the second team offered a positive sign.

Finally, big thanks to Kevin for reffing us.

Cardiff City 2 7 Bristol Uni
Dave Walker 1
Sian Hunt 1
